Chamberlain University and Ochsner Health announced that they have entered into an educational alliance agreement that includes the opening of a new Chamberlain University campus on the West Campus of Ochsner Medical Center on Jefferson Highway in New Orleans. Chamberlain is now accepting applications for admission to spring semester classes, which begin April 30, 2018.
Chamberlain’s new campus will be its first in Louisiana and will join 20 other Chamberlain locations across the United States. The campus will offer an on-site, three-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program that is distinctive in its culture of care and robust support for student success. The new campus expands baccalaureate nursing education opportunities in New Orleans, addressing the current nursing shortage the city is facing.[1]
The alliance with Chamberlain will extend beyond the typical clinical affiliation agreement to focus on improving patient care through strong academic-service collaboration in areas such as evidence-based practice, nursing research, interprofessional education and care teams, and testing new models for transitioning students into nursing practice.

Chamberlain’s New Orleans campus will feature Chamberlain’s SIMCARE CENTER™, providing high-tech simulated patient care in clinical learning environments for students and Ochsner healthcare professionals. A Center for Academic Success will deliver comprehensive academic resources and support on-site for students. The education experience is grounded in Chamberlain Care, an approach that puts the care of students at the forefront of education, and includes a unique academic success model to prepare new nurses and support current Ochsner nurses enrolled in Chamberlain’s programs. Faculty and staff provide students with individualized support from the beginning of their academic careers through graduation, providing each student with the strong foundation needed to succeed and to lead positive change in today’s healthcare environment.
The Chamberlain BSN program is different from most in that it provides direct entry into a nursing program, which is ideal for new students exploring the nursing field as well as for those considering a career change. Chamberlain’s BSN program is designed to be completed in as few as three years of year-round study instead of the traditional four years with summers off. The Chamberlain curriculum incorporates liberal arts and nursing coursework in a program that provides the education and skills necessary to prepare competent and caring nursing professionals.

In an effort to encourage lifelong learning, Chamberlain University will offer Ochsner nurses a variety of post-licensure degree programs including the RN–BSN degree completion option, Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). Registered nurses within the Ochsner Health will receive special tuition pricing for these programs.
Chamberlain has named Jennifer Couvillon PhD, MSN, RN-BC as president of its New Orleans campus. Dr. Couvillon oversees all aspects of campus operations including overall academic excellence, student services and support, operational efficiency, and student success. Prior to joining Chamberlain, Dr. Couvillon served as assistant vice president of system nursing professional development at Ochsner Health and was an assistant professor of clinical nursing at Louisiana State University School of Nursing.
