Ochsner Hospital for Children Announces 2019 King Cake Festival Date
6th annual event to feature fun run, live music and kids’ zone
Ochsner Hospital for Children’s 6th Annual King Cake Festival will take place on Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Champions Square. The family-friendly festival will be bigger than ever in 2019, with 26 bakeries from across the region offering unique and traditional king cake samples. Entrance to the festival is free and open to the public, with sales from food and beverage tickets and merchandise benefiting Ochsner Hospital for Children.
Those looking to burn calories before indulging can participate in the King Cake Festival Rep Run and Fun Run, which is scheduled for immediately before the Festival. The 4.5k Rep Run includes nine unique workout stations with up to 25 reps at each, led by Ochsner Fitness Center instructors. The family fun run/walking parade is one mile around the Mercedes Benz Superdome. Discounted registration for the races is now available online here.
More than 14,000 attendees enjoyed king cakes from 25 bakeries at the 2018 King Cake Festival, which raised over $250,000 for Ochsner Hospital for Children. Funds raised support services including the Michael R. Boh Center for Child Development, which opened in fall 2018.
The Boh Center is dedicated to improving the lives of children and adolescents with developmental disorders through comprehensive healthcare, research and education. The Boh Center is located at 1319 Jefferson Highway, adjacent to Ochsner Health Center for Children. Nearly 20 percent of children in Louisiana have special healthcare needs and 1 in 68 children falls on the autism spectrum. While the need is significant, healthcare resources in the Gulf South have been limited. The Boh Center is expanding access to pediatric subspecialty services and behavioral and developmental pediatric resources for thousands of patients.
“The Ochsner Hospital for Children family is so grateful that New Orleans has embraced King Cake Festival and its cause,” said Thomas Harris, Jr., FACHE, Vice President of Pediatrics at Ochsner Hospital for Children. “The generosity of our sponsors and attendees touches the lives of so many in our community by helping us provide the quality healthcare our kids need and deserve.”
The 2019 King Cake Festival is generously supported by Winn-Dixie, which is serving as the event’s presenting sponsor. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
