Ochsner Medical Center-Baton Rouge is First in State to Reach CMS Clinical Area Improvements
Louisiana Hospital Association award recognizes Ochsner as first hospital in Louisiana to achieve target improvements in Partnership for Patients Initiative
BATON ROUGE, LA – Ochsner Medical Center – Baton Rouge recently received an award from the Louisiana Hospital Association for being the first hospital in the state to demonstrate improvements in all 10 areas of the Hospital Engagement Network (HEN). To date, there are 97 hospitals in the network and Ochsner Medical Center – Baton Rouge now leads the pack in quality of care. The Hospital Engagement Network focuses on improving patient care and reducing healthcare costs in the state with a goal of reducing avoidable patient harm in nine areas of 40 percent and readmissions of 20 percent by December 2013.
The best practices to improve quality in the initiative’s 10 targeted areas include:
- Adverse drug events (ADE)
- Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI)
- Central line-associated blood stream infections (CLABSI)
- Injuries from falls and immobility
- Obstetrical adverse events
- Pressure Ulcers
- Surgical site infections
- Venous thromboembolism (VTE) or deep vein clots
- Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP)
- Preventable readmissions
