River Parishes Hospital to Join Ochsner Health System
NEW ORLEANS (Sept. 9, 2014) – Today, River Parishes Hospital, an acute-care hospital in LaPlace, La., announced its plans to join Ochsner Health(“Ochsner”), a national referral center and one of the Gulf South’s leading health systems. The acquisition of River Parishes by Ochsner will help ensure the delivery of essential, high quality healthcare services to people in St. John the Baptist Parish into the future.
Under the terms of a definitive agreement between Ochsner and River Parishes’ parent company, LifePoint Hospitals, Ochsner will operate River Parishes as an outpatient medical facility, providing emergency, outpatient diagnostic and primary care services, so patients can continue to receive the care they need close to home. Additionally, Ochsner will use its existing partnerships with St. Charles and St. James Parish Hospitals and work closely with its medical center in Kenner to meet all local needs for surgery and inpatient care. Ochsner’s vision is to develop a brand new, modern medical facility focused on emergency, primary care, laboratory and radiology services with advanced technology within the next 18-24 months.
“River Parishes has experienced many challenges in the changing healthcare environment, including reductions in reimbursement and significant declines in patient utilization,” said Alan Daugherty, CEO of River Parishes Hospital. “We are pleased that, as part of Ochsner, River Parishes will continue to provide the most essential services – emergency, outpatient diagnostic and primary care services – allowing patients to continue to receive the care they need close to home. Ochsner Health has an outstanding reputation for clinical excellence throughout this region, and River Parishes already has clinical collaborations with several of its providers and facilities. As part of its system, the new outpatient medical facility at River Parishes will have great opportunities to provide better coordination of care for the region and improve access to a range of medical services.”
“Regional coordination of care has never been more important,” said Warner Thomas, President and CEO, Ochsner Health System. “Ochsner and River Parishes have worked together to care for people in southeast Louisiana for many years. As part of the integrated Ochsner Health System, River Parishes will have the support needed to remain committed to serving their patients while allowing improved access to specialty services. This new collaborative model of care is an effective approach to ensure access to affordable, high quality healthcare in the community.”
The acquisition is expected to be completed by November 1, 2014. The River Parishes, LifePoint and Ochsner teams are working diligently to make this transition as seamless as possible for patients, employees, physicians and the community.
