Sight Medical, LLC & Ochsner Release Whitepaper on Redesign of Surgical Process in Ortho Surgeries

Ochsner Health(OHS) has released a whitepaper describing the results of its partnership with SIGHT Medical, LLC to transform, redesign and automate various aspects of medical device surgical processes into a new automated model. The beta technology was deployed within six months across three hospitals, four surgeons using multiple vendors starting in 2016 creating a quickly scalable and more importantly sustainable solution for surgeons, OR staff, supply chain and vendors.

Entitled, “Ochsner Health Redesigns the Surgical Process and Transforms Orthopedic Surgery to Improve Efficiencies and Decrease Costs,” the whitepaper documents an average of 32percent direct cost savings for automated TKR procedures when compared to the traditional sales and logistics model.

“We didn’t have an epiphany on a mountaintop. We just listened to everyone throughout the surgical process and got their feedback, said Doug Burnette, CEO, SIGHT Medical LLC. “We didn’t set out to revolutionize the surgery process, we simply combined a hundred great ideas into a single solution.”

I am excited about our orthopedic transformation project because it started with a simple concept that helps resolve significant business issues facing many hospitals. This project allows us to take great care of our patients and to manage the reduction in revenue from CJR, explains Michael Louviere, System Vice President, Ochsner Health System. “The movement of orthopedic joints to an outpatient surgery setting enables our patients to return where Ochsner wants them to be – healthy and in the comfort of their own homes. The Sight platform has facilitated our supply chain to becoming further integrated with our surgeons and clinical teams. The new automated process has created tremendous value through collaboration with our participating orthopedic vendors.”

“SIGHT Medical and Ochsner have created the first scalable multi-stakeholder, multi-service line technology solution to redefine processes, roles, responsibilities and culture resulting in sustainable cost reductions and improved quality. Stakeholders are looking for disruptive technology to help manage the changing health care paradigm, “said Vinod Dasa, Chief Medical Officer, Sight Medical LLC.
