Julie G. Broussard, MD, FASA, RPh, Named Vice President of Medical Affairs at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center

Lafayette, La.
– Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center is proud to announce the appointment of Julie G. Broussard, MD, FASA, RPh, as vice president of medical affairs.

A native of Carencro, La., Dr. Broussard earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, formerly Northeast Louisiana University, and began her healthcare career as a licensed pharmacist. She went on to receive her medical degree from LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, then completed her internship and residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. In 2011, Dr. Broussard joined Ochsner Lafayette General as a board-certified anesthesiologist.

Since that time, Dr. Broussard has had a lasting impact. She has served as Director of Anesthesiology since 2012, while also teaching the next generation of physicians as an assistant professor for LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans and site director for the anesthesiology residency rotation. A committed leader and advocate for her field, she currently serves on the boards of both the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Louisiana Society of Anesthesiologists. Most recently, Dr. Broussard completed a two-year term as chief of staff at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center, following more than a decade of service on various medical staff committees.

“Dr. Broussard has consistently demonstrated strong clinical leadership, thoughtful collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to patient care,” said Amanda Logue, MD, Ochsner Lafayette General Regional Medical Director. “She brings tremendous experience and energy to the vice president of medical affairs role, and I am confident she will continue to be a powerful advocate for our care teams and our patients.”

In her new role as vice president of medical affairs, she will continue practicing as medical director for anesthesia while taking on additional leadership responsibilities focused on quality, safety, and physician collaboration.

“This role is a natural next step in Dr. Broussard’s leadership journey,” said Al Patin, CEO, Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center. “She’s been with us through many important chapters in our hospital’s history and has long been a trusted voice among our medical staff. Dr. Broussard brings the same passion, dedication, and steady presence to everything she does, and I know she will continue to strengthen our teams and help us deliver the excellent care our patients have come to expect from us for generations.”

The vice president of medical affairs works closely with the hospital’s executive team and clinical staff to lead strategic initiatives that improve care quality and patient experience. Serving as a critical liaison between the medical staff, hospital administration and the broader healthcare system, the vice president of medical affairs promotes the use of clinical data to improve outcomes, advances clinical standardization, and fosters an environment of professionalism and innovation.

“I am honored to step into this role and continue serving the physicians, advanced practice providers and patients of Ochsner Lafayette General,” said Dr. Broussard. “This hospital holds a special place in my heart. I was born here, and I am deeply committed to strengthening collaboration, advancing clinical excellence, and supporting our teams in delivering the highest quality care.”

Outside of her professional achievements, Dr. Broussard is known for her deep roots in Acadiana and her vibrant personality. She lives in Lafayette with her husband, Jon G. Howell, RN, and is the proud mother of two teenagers, Madeline (19) and Andrew (17). A lover of Mardi Gras, she can often be found in spirited costumes and elaborate face paint during Lafayette’s carnival season. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, Reformer Pilates, crafting with oyster shells, and is currently working on publishing a children’s book to help young patients better understand and cope with surgery.
