SHREVEPORT, La. – Ochsner LSU Health is proud to welcome board-certified and fellowship-trained neurologist Junaid Ansari, MD to Ochsner LSU Heath – Academic Medical Center. Dr. Ansari offers extensive experience and a deep commitment to delivering cutting-edge care that improves outcomes for patients experiencing life-threatening neurological conditions. He specializes in vascular neurology and neurocritical care.
Dr. Ansari has subspecialty training in neurocritical care and is currently pursuing additional training in interventional neuroradiology. His focus is on minimally invasive, image-guided treatments such as mechanical thrombectomy and cerebral aneurysm repair. Passionate about patient-centered care, Dr. Ansari strives to integrate state-of-the-art interventions with compassionate communication for patients and their families.

Intracerebral hemorrhage
Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage
Other complex neurological emergencies
Refractory seizures and other neurocritical care emergencies
Dr. Ansari, originally from Kashmir, earned his medical degree from Rajshahi Medical College in Bangladesh on a SAARC Free Tuition Scholarship, awarded to outstanding international students from South Asia. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in physiology at LSU Health Shreveport, where he studied how certain blood cells, called neutrophils, can increase blood clotting and their role in strokes caused by blocked blood flow. While at LSU Health Shreveport, he completed a clinical internship in internal medicine and a neurology residency, where he served as chief resident and president of the resident council.
After residency, he pursued a neurocritical care fellowship at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, where he also served as vice chair of wellness for the Clinical Fellows Council. He is board-certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is an active member of the American Heart Association, the Neurocritical Care Society and the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Ansari also serves as an assistant professor of neurology at LSU Health Shreveport and is deeply involved in translational and clinical research. His laboratory and clinical studies focus on thromboinflammation, stroke recovery and innovative approaches to neurorehabilitation, including the use of music therapy to support patients with disorders of consciousness. His research has been published in leading journals such as Circulation, Blood and JAMA, and his work has been cited nearly 1,300 times, reflecting its significant impact in the field of stroke and neurovascular care.
