Meet the New Providers at Ochsner Lafayette General

Expert Care Across Specialties in the Acadiana Region

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana – Ochsner Lafayette General welcomes new providers in the Acadiana region.  

  • Syem K. Barakzai, MD, is a gynecologic oncologist at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center, specializing in minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. He also performs surgery on complex tumors, hysterectomy and advanced reconstructive surgery. Dr. Barakzai earned a medical degree from Tulane University and completed residency at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. In addition, he completed a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He is fluent in Spanish, German and Urdu.  

  • Pavana Sakhamuri, MD, is a board-certified rheumatologist at Ochsner Lafayette General - Burdin Riehl with expertise in diagnosing and managing complex autoimmune and inflammatory disorders, including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and scleroderma. After earning a medical degree from Guntur Medical College in India, she completed a residency in internal medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center in Lafayette, and a fellowship in rheumatology at LSU Health New Orleans. Dr. Sakhamuri is a member of the American College of Rheumatology.  

  • Meghana Pattipati, MD,  practices internal medicine at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center, specializing in endocrinology, diabetes and sleep medicine. She helps patients manage complex diabetes, thyroid disorders, adrenal and pituitary conditions, and metabolic disorders. She also performs advanced procedures like thyroid FNA and Testopel insertion. Dr. Pattipati received her medical degree at Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences. She completed a residency in internal medicine at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in Brooklyn, New York. She completed fellowship training in sleep medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, as well as a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at Harbor - UCLA Medical Center. 

  • Marvi Mahar, MD, specializes in diagnosing and managing complex infections. She treats infections of the bloodstream, bone and joints and chronic wounds, as well as HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B and C, tuberculosis and multidrug-resistant infections. Dr. Mahar completed her medical studies at Jinnah Medical and Dental College - Pakistan and residency in internal medicine at MedStar Health in Baltimore, Maryland. She completed fellowship training in infectious diseases at Cleveland Medical Center. As a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, she ensures evidence-based, compassionate care. She collaborates closely with patients and care teams at Ochsner Lafayette General Infectious Disease Clinic.  

  • Lyndsey Bruno, MD is a general surgeon at Ochsner General & Bariatric Surgery, specializing in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. She received a medical degree and completed her residency in general surgery at LSU Health New Orleans, and a fellowship in advanced gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery at St. Luke's Hospital of Kansas City in Kansas City, Missouri.  Dr. Bruno is certified by the American Board of Surgery.

  • Jishna Shrestha, MD, treats patients with infectious diseases, focusing on tropical medicine, global health, immunocompromised host infections and travel medicine at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center. She earned a medical degree from Kathmandu Medical College in Nepal and completed a residency at Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital/Chicago Medical School in Chicago. She completed a fellowship in infectious diseases at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. She is a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America.  

  • Koby F. Lanclos, MD, is a native of Arnaudville, Louisiana, who specializes in neuromuscular and musculoskeletal rehabilitation at Ochsner Lafayette General Neuroscience Center. He earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport and completed his residency at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. Dr. Lanclos focuses on neuromuscular and musculoskeletal rehabilitation, with expertise in EMGs, joint injections, nerve blocks, and prosthetic management.  

  • Patrick McLaren, MD, is a surgical oncologist at Ochsner Lafayette General - Burdin Riehl, specializing in hepato-pancreato-biliary and complex general surgical oncology. He earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, completed his general surgery residency at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, and pursued advanced fellowships in esophageal cancer research and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery. Originally from Wisconsin, Dr. McLaren is committed to providing personalized care for patients with GI tract conditions and has made Acadiana his home.
