Ochsner 65 Plus Clinic Opens in Lafreniere area of Jefferson Parish

METAIRIE, La. – As part of Ochsner Health’s ongoing effort to inspire healthier lives and stronger communities, it has opened Ochsner 65 Plus – Lafreniere (7060 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, La. 70003) to provide specialized health and wellness services for patients 65 and older.

“Ochsner Health is excited to provide older adults in and around Metairie with an innovative program that is designed around their unique needs and interests,” said Robert Wolterman, Regional Chief Executive Officer, South Shore Region & Clinical Joint Ventures, Ochsner Health. “Ochsner is constantly innovating, and we are committed to meeting the unique needs of the people in our community at every stage of life.”

Ochsner 65 Plus is designed exclusively for older patients. It offers personalized healthcare, social support, and wellness resources to care for all aspects of a person's well-being.

“This new Ochsner 65 Plus clinic will bring care closer to home for our older residents, which is critical because of our aging population here in Jefferson Parish. The clinic also aligns with our plan to enhance the area around Lafreniere Park with developments that continue to improve the quality of life for all our residents,” said Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng. “Ochsner 65 Plus is not just a clinic but a testament to our dedication to building a healthier, more vibrant Jefferson Parish.”

Patients benefit from a multidisciplinary team that collaborates to deliver customized care plans. It includes a primary care physician who provides extended one-on-one time, with appointments often lasting between 40 minutes and one hour. Care teams also include a licensed clinical social worker trained in behavioral therapy, a clinical pharmacist to help people manage even the most complex of medication regimens, a dietitian who can help provide nutritional counseling support, a health coach, a fitness instructor and others.

Specializing in common conditions experienced by older adults, like arthritis, diabetes and heart failure, Ochsner 65 Plus provides a full suite of services, including labs, fitness centers, immunizations, infusions and physical therapy. Furthermore, its patients are seamlessly connected to the hundreds of specialties and resources provided throughout the Ochsner Health system.

The offerings extend beyond traditional medical services to include social and wellness opportunities matched to patients’ interests and lifestyles, such as group fitness classes, cooking demonstrations, health coaching, and card games, among many others.

Ochsner 65 Plus staff also help patients obtain difficult-to-acquire medications, navigate insurance, obtain financial assistance, and utilize Ochsner Digital Medicine technologies.

“Ochsner 65 Plus clinics are free-standing primary care clinics that are designed specifically to help meet the unique needs of older adults, and where we take a comprehensive approach to primary care with the patient’s unique health needs in mind,” said Dr. Kenny Cole, Ochsner’s System VP for Clinical Improvement. “Along with our specialized physicians, we have built a team around the patient that provides customized care based on their personal goals and preferences.”

Ochsner 65 Plus – Lafreniere is the fifth such clinic to open, joining others in Covington, La, Baton Rouge, La, Pensacola, Fla., and Ridgeland, S.C.

Ochsner 65 Plus accepts traditional Medicare, along with Medicare Advantage plans offered by Ochsner Health Plan, Humana, Peoples Health and Blue Cross. Appointments can be scheduled online, and guided tours are available.
