NEW ORLEANS – It’s Carnival time once again in Louisiana, which means Ochsner Eat Fit King Cakes have returned to retailers, offering a way to celebrate the season without sacrificing flavor or nutrition. For 2026, Ochsner Eat Fit King Cakes are available for purchase at retailers statewide, online at EatFitKingCake.com, and in select markets in Mississippi and Arkansas. Also back this year are Eat Fit King Cake Cupcakes, delivering all the indulgence of the traditional dessert in a perfectly portioned, bite-sized form.
Designed for those seeking better-for-you options during Carnival, Eat Fit King Cakes and Cupcakes are certified gluten-free and grain-free, low in carbohydrates, dairy-free and compatible with keto lifestyles. Each cake is crafted using almond and coconut flour and sweetened with erythritol, a plant-based, zero-calorie sweetener with no artificial colors or additives. The result is a rich, moist dessert with a smooth texture that blends the feel of a classic pound cake with the familiar flavors of king cake without the heaviness or graininess often associated with alternative flours.
“Carnival season is about tradition, community and enjoyment. These king cakes and cupcakes make it possible for people with a wide range of nutritional needs to fully take part in the celebration while still enjoying the flavors they expect,” said Molly Kimball, RD, CSSD, Director of Lifestyle Nutrition and Eat Fit at Ochsner Health.
Nutritionally, Eat Fit King Cakes stand apart from traditional versions, offering 93 percent fewer carbs, four times the protein and 2.5 times more fiber. Plus, the cakes have zero sugar (compared to 50 grams of sugar in a typical serving of traditional king cake) and no white or refined flour. All Eat Fit King Cakes and Eat Fit King Cake Cupcakes are decorated in classic purple, green and gold using naturally derived coloring instead of artificial food dyes.
