BATON ROUGE, La. – Patients across the Baton Rouge region now have greater access to specialized surgical care closer to home following an expansion of the surgical center at Ochsner Medical Complex - The Grove. The multimillion-dollar expansion doubled the number of operating rooms, increasing capacity and allowing more patients to receive surgical care at The Grove.

Surgeons, physicians and team members recently marked the completion of the expansion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at The Grove.

The increase in the number of operating rooms broadens the range of procedures available at The Grove and allows more patients to have surgery locally, bringing more specialized surgical care to a modern, patient-centered setting. The additional capacity reduces wait times, expands access to care and supports a growing number of Ochsner and community-based physicians, including 20 new surgeons, including specialists in breast, colorectal, orthopedic, podiatry and gynecologic oncology, and three new radiologists hired as part of the expansion.

“Our investment in The Grove is about creating a place where patients and families can access more of the care they need in one convenient location,” said Chuck Daigle, CEO of Ochsner Baton Rouge. “From expanding surgical capabilities to growing the specialists and services available on campus, we’re continuing to invest in the people, technology and facilities that help us provide exceptional care close to home.”

The expansion builds on Ochsner’s collaborative approach to care, bringing together both Ochsner and community-based physicians to meet the region’s growing healthcare needs. In August, surgeons from The NeuroMedical Center performed the first spine surgery at The Grove, one of the procedures not previously offered at that location.

“Our team has the surgical expertise, clinical support and partnerships in place to take full advantage of this new capacity,” said Quentin Alleva, MD, regional medical director of Ochsner Baton Rouge. “These operating rooms allow our surgeons and community partners to provide more specialized care in one convenient location while giving patients greater access to the procedures they need. For patients who have a choice in where they receive care, we want The Grove to stand out for the quality, convenience and efficiency of the entire experience from arrival through recovery. It’s an investment not only in our facilities, but in the physicians, team members and partnerships that make exceptional care possible.”

The completed surgical expansion is the latest milestone in Ochsner Baton Rouge’s $50 million, multi-phase expansion at The Grove and Ochsner Medical Center - Baton Rouge. The investment is designed to increase appointment availability in primary care, orthopedics, cancer care and other specialties, including pediatrics, cardiology, emergency services and gastroenterology. At The Grove, it also adds nearly 20,000 square feet of new clinic space, as well as expanded imaging capacity, upgrades to cardiology, and specialized minimally invasive procedures that use imaging technology to diagnose and treat patients.

The Grove offers nearly 50 specialty services, including orthopedics, neurosurgery, oncology, gastroenterology, women’s services, pediatric care, sports medicine, radiology and diagnostic imaging, cardiology, physical therapy and rehabilitation. Care is delivered through a collaborative network of Ochsner specialists, Ochsner Andrews Sports Medicine Institute, Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center and community provider partners including Renal Associates, The NeuroMedical Center, CVT Surgical & Vein Therapy Center, Impact Network, Southern Radiology Consultants and The Digestive Group.

Located off the Interstate 10 East Service Road between the Mall of Louisiana and Siegen Lane exits, The Grove was designed as a comprehensive healthcare destination where patients can access a wide range of services in one convenient location. The campus includes hospital beds for patients requiring overnight care, surgical operating rooms, dedicated endoscopy rooms, pain management procedure rooms and an infusion center. By combining  these services in one location, The Grove makes procedural care as convenient and efficient as possible while delivering the high-quality experience patients expect from Ochsner.

Ochsner proudly accepts most major insurance plans, making it easier for families to access the care they need. To schedule an appointment at any Ochsner location, call 866-624-7637 or visit www.ochsner.org/info. Online appointments are also available through the MyOchsner patient portal.
