Release Date: Sept. 24, 2024
BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – Ochsner Health is proud to announce that Rose Sterling, an environmental services technician with Ochsner Medical Center – Baton Rouge, is a winner of the 2024 Cleaning to Advance the Patient Experience, or CAPE, Awards presented by Cintas Corp.
Cintas’ annual CAPE Awards honor environmental services technicians on the frontlines of keeping hospitals and healthcare facilities clean and safe for employees, patients, residents and visitors.
“This is a tremendous honor for Rose and everyone at Ochsner,” says Chuck Daigle, president and CEO of the Ochsner Baton Rouge region. “Maintaining a clean environment is critical for any healthcare facility. Our environmental services team does an outstanding job, and Rose’s CAPE award is well deserved.”
Nominations for the CAPE awards were made from June to August. A panel of Cintas representatives evaluated the nominations based on their compelling nature and the quality of service and dedication of the nominee. Sterling is one of 10 award winners chosen from nearly 800 submissions nationwide.
Sterling’s nomination highlights a number of her accomplishments since joining OMC – Baton Rouge in 2022. She is well known for connecting with individual patients, remembering the names and room numbers, and cleaning their rooms according to personal preferences. When rooms were cleaned once patients checked out, Sterling accepted feedback during inspections of her work and insisted that she personally correct any deficiencies.
In her current role as the hospital’s lead linen aide, Sterling is credited with holding her team to a high standard and improving the department’s efficiency, as well as sharing information to help her department provide the best service possible to every patient. She also takes part in Ochsner’s new certified onboarding ambassador program, serving as a “buddy” for new hires during the first six months of their employment.
“Ochsner’s culture allows me to do my best every day, and every day is different,” Sterling says. “We attack challenges head-on and as a team. There is also opportunity for growth and learning, which I love.
