Ochsner Health with Johnson & Johnson and Abundant Life Tabernacle to host Protect the Prostate

NEW ORLEANS – Ochsner Health will host the Protect the Prostate cancer awareness event at the Abundant Life Tabernacle Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1701 Franklin Avenue, on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  

Presented by Ochsner, Johnson & Johnson and community partner Abundant Life Tabernacle Full Gospel Baptist Church, the Protect the Prostate event advances a core mission to improve healthcare access and health outcomes during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

“Abundant Life is pleased to partner with Ochsner Health for this important community event. Healthcare for families and especially men is a priority of our congregation,” said Bishop Tyronne Jefferson, pastor, Abundant Life Tabernacle Full Gospel Baptist Church. “Bring your brother, your son, your nephew, your friend. Take this opportunity for no cost health screenings, door prizes, a second line contest, and essential information about how to stay healthy.”

Services offered at the event include:  

  • Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center prostate and colorectal cancer education
  • Prostate specific antigen (PSA) screenings
  • Blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol checks

The Protect the Prostate cancer awareness event will have a series of Barbershop Talks: “Black Male Sexual Health,” with Eric Griggs, MD, associate vice president of community health strategy and AI health innovation, Access Health Louisiana (FQHC) and “Your Physical Health and Your Prostate,” with Dr. Patrick Thompson, CEO and chief healing officer, Whole Kingdom Wellness. There will also be an expert panel presented by Abundant Life Bishop Tyronne Jefferson and moderated by Norman Robinson. Panelists include Brian Halbert, MD, genitourinary oncologist, Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center; Jorge Caso, MD, urologic oncologist, LCMC Health and Brendan King, MD, urologist, LCMC Health. Lunch will be served.
