Ochsner LSU Health Monroe receives an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from the Leapfrog Group

MONROE, La. – Ochsner LSU Health - Monroe Medical Center has been awarded an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog dedicated to patient safety. This recognition places the medical center among the safest hospitals in the nation, reflecting its commitment to reducing errors, accidents, injuries, and infections while fostering a culture of patient-first care. This is the first time the facility has achieved an ‘A’ safety grade and it is the only hospital in northeast Louisiana to currently hold this rating.

"This achievement is a testament to the hard work, expertise, and unwavering dedication of the team at Ochsner LSU Health - Monroe Medical Center," said Mark Randolph, chief executive officer of Ochsner LSU Health Monroe. "Earning an ‘A’ grade signifies not only our commitment to the highest standards of patient safety but also the trust and confidence of the community we serve. This milestone reflects the incredible progress we are making together, always with the well-being of our patients at the forefront."

“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade reflects enormous dedication to patient safety,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I extend my congratulations to Ochsner LSU Health - Monroe Medical Center, its leadership, clinicians, staff, and volunteers for creating a culture where patients come first.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital rating program that focuses exclusively on preventable medical errors, infections, and injuries that claim over 500 lives every day in the United States. Utilizing peer-reviewed methodology and over 30 measures of hospital safety practices, the grade is updated twice annually, ensuring full transparency for patients and families.

The efforts behind this accomplishment were further highlighted by Dr. Michael O'Neal, chief medical officer at Ochsner LSU Health Monroe. "Quality and patient safety are at the core of everything we do. This recognition from The Leapfrog Group underscores the hard work and dedication of our medical staff and care teams who consistently uphold and exceed the highest standards. We are inspired to continue advancing our practices to provide outstanding, safe care to every patient who walks through our doors."

Ochsner LSU Health – Monroe Medical Center is a 233-bed hospital with the area’s only 24-hour Emergency Department fully staffed with board-certified emergency medicine physicians. In 2023, the Louisiana Emergency Response Network (LERN) designated Monroe Medical Center as northeast Louisiana’s first Level III Trauma Center.
