Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport – St. Mary Medical Center Opens New Women’s Services Floor

Continuing to expand and enhance Labor & Delivery accommodations at St. Mary Medical Center, the hospital held a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the new floor with 25 additional rooms set to open on November 8.

SHREVEPORT, La. – Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport – St. Mary Medical Center recently completed a $7.5 million renovation to open another women’s services floor, which includes 20,000 square feet and nearly doubles the postpartum and perinatal capacity with an additional 25 beds. The fully renovated mother/baby rooms include a private bathroom with walk-in showers that have a bench, state-of-the-art patient beds, 42” televisions, and sleeper sofa for guests. Patient rooms have large windows with views of downtown Shreveport and the historic Highland neighborhood. Nurses’ stations are located next to the patient rooms, which are secured by HUGS, a state-of-the-art infant protection system. Patients are provided room service options from the chef. Visitors have access free Wi-Fi in a spacious waiting area, an array of culinary options at the recently renovated Café Dubois, and freshly made Starbucks® coffee drinks in the new coffee shop.

Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport – St. Mary Medical Center is the area’s only hospital with obstetricians/gynecologists and anesthesiologists on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The specialists available include two maternal-fetal medicine physicians and more than 20 full-time pediatric specialists and subspecialists. St. Mary Medical Center also offers private labor and delivery suites and state-of-the-art labor and delivery operating rooms. Childbirth education classes are available for patients and lactation consultants are onsite. St. Mary Medical Center is a Louisiana Birth Ready designated facility and includes a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

In addition to the 162-bed hospital for Women’s & Children’s services, the Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport - St. Mary Medical Center campus in the Shreveport’s Highland neighborhood also includes several outpatient services, including a comprehensive diagnostic and imaging center, ambulatory surgery center, and clinics for neurology, neurosurgery, sleep, gastroenterology, child psychiatry, pain management, dermatology and facial plastics.
