Ochsner, Southern University to provide health screenings and checks for no-cost Family Care and Health Expo at United Believers Church

Event is open to the public 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, July 25 at church’s fellowship hall

Ochsner Health and Southern University will provide health screenings and checks for the Family Care and Health Expo from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, July 25 at United Believers Church in Baton Rouge. This no-cost event is open to the public at the church’s fellowship hall at 8837 Greenwell Springs Road.

The event will offer health screenings, community resources and back-to-school activities and supplies:

• Blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and body mass index screenings

• Lung cancer risk assessments

• Manual breast exams by an Ochsner clinician

• Mental health awareness education

• HIV testing

• Hearing screenings

• CPR education

• Complimentary haircuts

• Back-to-school supplies

• Children and family activities

The Family Care and Health event is a core mission of all three partners to improve healthcare access and healthy outcomes for Louisiana families.

“As a retired Ochsner physician and a member of this beloved north Baton Rouge church community, the hope is that our members and neighbors will take advantage of this important and comprehensive family health opportunity,” said George Howard, MD. “United Believers Church is pleased to partner with Ochsner Health to benefit the families of the community. Access to healthcare for our community is a priority for our church and its members.”

Southern will bring its Jag Mobile to the event as well. The mobile health unit provides nursing students with an opportunity to get firsthand experience working with patients directly in their community.
