LAFAYETTE, La. – Team members at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center took a proactive step toward community health by hosting a special event in recognition of National Injury Prevention Day. The event, dedicated to raising awareness and providing practical education, took place on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025, in the main hospital lobby.
Experts from multiple healthcare specialties led interactive activities that taught vital injury prevention techniques to attendees. The NICU and Mother Baby team provided education on safe sleep practices and car seat safety. The athletic training team offered demonstrations on tourniquet application and shared insights on sports injury prevention. Additionally, the physical therapy department was in attendance to discuss effective fall prevention strategies for all ages.
“As the only Level II Trauma Center in southwest Louisiana, we see preventable injuries every day, whether from car crashes, falls, or other incidents that could have been avoided with proper precautions,” stated Willard Mosier, MD, MS, Trauma Medical Director, Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center.
National Injury Prevention Day is represented by the color green, and this theme was evident at today’s event. The OLGMC team distributed green ribbon pins to attendees as a symbol of commitment to injury prevention. Additionally, The Oil Center Association participated by lighting up the Oil Center green in support of the event.
This initiative underscores Ochsner Lafayette General’s dedication to empowering the community and promoting a safer, healthier future for everyone.
