LULING, La. – St. Charles Parish Hospital is proud to sponsor the Community Showcase at St. Charles Parish Public Schools’ Satellite Center on Nov. 14. Located at 285 Judge Edward Dufresne Parkway in Luling, the event begins at 5 p.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m. Designed for students in third through 11th grade and their families, this event is an opportunity to learn more about the Satellite Center and its course offerings. In addition, there will be an important educational presentation on smoking and vaping prevention.
The Satellite Center provides a unique learning experience open to Destrehan and Hahnville High School students to gain the skills needed in a modern economy. Students enrolled in a course at the center have the opportunity to learn from industry professionals, participate in service learning projects, and earn dual enrollment credits and industry-based certifications. Guests will have the opportunity to speak with current Satellite Center team members (students) and facilitators (teachers) about their experiences.
Guests are also invited to attend a smoking and vaping prevention presentation from Ochsner Health’s smoking cessation program and to peruse exhibits and demonstrations provided by several additional community partners.
"Over the past three years, St. Charles Parish Public Schools have proudly partnered with St. Charles Parish Hospital and Ochsner Health’s smoking cessation program to raise awareness about the harmful effects of vaping on our youth. This collaboration has been instrumental in providing vital education to our students and families, emphasizing the dangers of vaping and the importance of making informed, healthy choices. Together, we are working to protect the well-being of students and families to create a healthier, safer community for all,” said Ken Oertling, Ed D, superintendent, St. Charles Parish Public Schools.
Ochsner Health is proud to partner with St. Charles Parish Public Schools for the third consecutive year to bring the smoking and vaping prevention presentation to local high school students and their families.
“By partnering with St. Charles Parish Public Schools, we can share important information and raise awareness of the dangers of smoking and vaping. We hope to empower our community members with the knowledge to make healthy choices and create a bright future,” said Keith Dacus, chief executive officer, St. Charles Parish Hospital.
All attendees are eligible to enter a raffle to win four tickets to a New Orleans Saints game. For more information about St. Charles Parish Hospital, visit Ochsner.org/locations/st-charles-parish-hospital and visit wearescpps.org for more information about St. Charles Parish Public Schools.
