St. Charles Parish Hospital to Sponsor Satellite Center Open House

Luling, La.St. Charles Parish Hospital is proud to sponsor an open house for St. Charles Parish Public SchoolsSatellite Center on November 14. Designed for students in third through 11th grade and their families, this event is an opportunity to learn more about the Satellite Center and its course offerings.

The Satellite Center provides a unique learning experience open to Destrehan and Hahnville High School students to gain the skills needed in a modern economy. Students enrolled in a course at the center have the opportunity to learn from industry professionals, participate in service learning projects, and earn dual enrollment credits and industry-based certifications.

Located at 285 Judge Edward Dufresne Parkway in Luling, the open house begins at 5:00 p.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to speak with current Satellite Center team members (students) and facilitators (teachers) about their experiences. Guests are also invited to attend a smoking and vaping prevention presentation from Ochsner Health’s smoking cessation program and to peruse exhibits and demonstrations provided by several additional community partners.

“It is no secret that children are more likely to attend school, be ready to learn and stay engaged in class when they develop healthy habits. Through collaboration with St. Charles Parish Hospital and Ochsner Health’s smoking cessation program, we have worked diligently to spotlight student health and vaping awareness as just one interactive component of the Satellite Center’s annual open house event,” said Jerry Smith, executive director of child welfare & attendance and student services, St. Charles Parish Public Schools.

Ochsner Health is proud to partner with St. Charles Parish Public Schools for the second consecutive year to bring the smoking and vaping prevention presentation to local high school students and their families.

“Our goal is to bring awareness not only to the dangers and realities of smoking and vaping but also to share the health benefits that abstaining from smoking and vaping can have. We are grateful for our continued partnership with St. Charles Parish Public Schools," said Keith Dacus, chief executive officer, St. Charles Parish Hospital. "Smoking and vaping are dangerous to our health. Knowledge is power, and by creating awareness, we hope to empower our community to make healthier choices."

All attendees are eligible to enter a raffle to win a pair of tickets to a New Orleans Saints game and a pair of tickets to a New Orleans Pelicans game.
