Ochsner, Christus Health Leaders Say Joint Venture Will Focus on Physician Recruitment, Telemedicine

New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System and Irving, Texas-based Christus Health have finalized a joint venture agreement for Ochsner to become a minority member of Christus Health Southwestern Louisiana.

Under the agreement, Christus Health will manage Christus Ochsner St. Patrick and Christus Ochsner Lake Area hospitals in Lake Charles, La. Ochsner will manage all physician and clinic operations within the 13 Lake Charles area clinics.

Ochsner Athletic Trainers Provide Much-Needed Assist to Local Schools

Northeast is one of 14 East Baton Rouge Parish-based schools that are part of the new partnership with Ochsner Health System and sports medicine, which provides athletic trainers. An Ochsner team of athletic trainers is assigned to work multiple EBR schools, attending practices and games. The Ochsner team also includes sports medicine physicians and a Saturday morning injury clinic at its Summa location on Bluebonnet.

Melanoma is aggressive, and had spread to Butler's lungs and abdomen. When a friend recommended he seek treatment at Ochsner, he was so weak, he could barely walk, and was nearly 100 pounds lighter. He was also at risk because of several other health problems of the heart, high blood pressure, diabetes and the auto immune disease rheumatoid arthritis. The head of Ochsner Hematology/Oncology, Dr. Zoe Larned, gave him hope with immunotherapy, a drug more recently approved that allows immune cells to go around melanoma's barrier and kill them.
