The medical center, which includes the Ochsner Lafayette General Surgical Hospital, Ochsner Lafayette General Orthopedic Hospital and the Ochsner Cancer Center of Acadiana, also was noted to have eight "high-performing" procedures and conditions, including acute kidney failure, colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement, stroke and leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

The ranking was determined by analyzing factors such as clinical outcomes, level of nursing care and patient experience across over 4,500 hospitals. Only 12 percent of the evaluated hospitals received a Best Hospital ranking.
