Ochsner Lafayette General awarded $1 million grant for opioid prevention

Ochsner is building a Marrero clinic for older adults, its second in Jefferson Parish

Ochsner Health System is building another speciality clinic for older adults, spending more than $2.8 million to convert space formerly occupied by a cosmetics store and a pizza restaurant in a Marrero shopping center.

It will be the health care provider's sixth Ochsner 65 Plus clinic and the second in Jefferson Parish, where the median age, 40, is higher than that of Louisiana and the United States — and rising faster than both.

Ochsner Breaks Ground on Neuroscience Center

On Nov. 6, Ochsner Health broke ground on the Debra H. and Robert J. Patrick Neuroscience Center on Jefferson Highway near Ochsner Medical Center – New Orleans.

Announced in 2022, the 132,000-square-foot facility will integrate Ochsner’s neurology, neurosurgery and behavioral health departments. It also will include an assistive technology lab to help patients living with ALS and other neurological disorders increase their independence, mobility and communication. The lab was inspired by a strategic partnership with Team Gleason.

Ochsner Appoints Chief Community Medical Officer

Dr. Yvens Laborde has been named chief community medical officer for Ochsner Health. He will lead the health system’s community strategy to promote health equity and further align initiatives under Healthy State, a collaborative effort with government, nonprofit and business organizations to promote health and wellness in Louisiana.

Laborde will also develop programs to train and educate students and healthcare professionals on the principles and practices of health equity and social drivers of health and wellness.

The new community medical officer role comes a year after the formation of the 38-member Healthy State Advisory Board.

Alabama system joins Ochsner ACO to improve senior health outcomes

Mobile, Ala.-based Infirmary Health, the largest nonprofit private healthcare provider in the state, is teaming up with New Orleans-based Ochsner Health by joining its accountable care organization, the two systems said Nov. 2.

The partnership with Ochsner Accountable Care Network, a top-performing ACO, aims to further improve health outcomes for older adults across the Gulf Coast region.

Infirmary Health physicians will join the already more than 2,250 physicians working within the Ochsner Accountable Care Network, which recently reported its seventh straight year of top-ranking CMS results, Ochsner said.
