Ochsner Encourages Medicare Beneficiaries to Review Coverage

Beginning on Oct. 15, many Louisiana residents enrolled in Medicare will again have the chance to join Medicare Advantage benefit plans offered by OHP — this time for the 2023 plan year. Premiums and copays will continue to start at $0 and include a wide range of cost-saving features and wellness programs not available with original Medicare, such as prescription drug coverage, fitness, dental, hearing and vision benefits.

Pete November Named Ochsner Health CEO

Today, Ochsner Health’s Board of Directors announced that after 24 years of service to the organization, Warner Thomas will enter the next chapter of his career as President and CEO of Sutter Health, an integrated not-for-profit network of 22 hospitals, 12,000 aligned physicians, 53,000 employees and over $14B in revenue in 2021. The Ochsner Health Board has unanimously voted to appoint Pete November, Ochsner Health’s current Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, as Thomas’s successor. November will assume the role of CEO on November 1, 2022.

The Ochsner Accountable Care Network achieved its sixth consecutive year of top-ranking results in both clinical performance and healthcare savings for Louisiana’s and Mississippi’s Medicare population. Its network of physicians and providers who support the Medicare Shared Savings Program lowered expected cost of care by nearly $24 million for more than 40,000 Medicare beneficiaries in 2021. Over the last six years, OACN has improved the health outcomes for our beneficiaries and reduced healthcare spending by more than $100 million.

Over 200 Ochsner Doctors Recognized on Annual ‘Best Doctors’ List

New Orleans Magazine’s 2022 “Best Doctors” list has recognized 205 physicians across more than 40 specialties from Ochsner Health and partner hospitals in the greater New Orleans area. Doctors from Ochsner affiliated hospitals and facilities accounted for more than 38% of the list, representing more than 45 medical specialties – including cardiovascular disease, family medicine, infectious diseases, obstetrics and gynecology and pediatrics, to name a few.

Healthcare has a drug hoarding issue, Ochsner's VP of pharmacy says

Jason Chou, PharmD, Ochsner Health's vice president of pharmacy services, told Becker's the longevity of drug shortages and the critical levels are worsening.

"Recently, we've had some shortages that I think have been a lot more impactful," Dr. Chou said, referring to supply issues for a heart failure drug and the contrast dye shortage that sprung up in May that has since slowly resolved.

Ochsner physician saves 70-year-old who had heart attack at airport baggage claim

Selim Krim, MD, a transplant cardiologist with the John Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute, was waiting for his bags with others when Joseph Gormley began to code. With the help of two women, they performed CPR on the scene and Dr. Krim delivered one shock with an automated external defibrillator. Mr. Gormley was revived and remained stable and conscious until paramedics arrived.
