Ochsner Health Center-Lockport Reopens 8 Months After Hurricane Ida

On Tuesday, April 12, Ochsner Health Center–Lockport reopened for the first time since Hurricane Ida made landfall on August 26, 2021. The primary care health center was extensively damaged by the Category 4 storm, as was much of the Bayou Region.

National ‘Donate Life’ month remembers organ, tissue, eye donors

In honor of national ‘Donate Life’ month, Christus Ochsner Hospital raised the flag in remembrance of local organ donors.

Among those honored, was Castille Anthony Hebert. His wife, Elaine Hebert spoke about her husband and the impact he was able to make as an organ donor, even after he passed away two years ago.

Ochsner Surgeon Elected VP of State’s Orthopaedic Association

Leslie Sisco-Wise, MD was elected first vice president of the Louisiana Orthopaedic Association (LOA) at the 2022 LOA Annual Meeting in New Orleans on March 19. Next year, Dr. Sisco-Wise will ascend to the leadership role of president making her the first woman to serve as president of the Louisiana Orthopaedic Association.

Ochsner Baton Rouge chosen by US Dept. of Defense to participate in knee injury medical trial

According to Ochsner Baton Rouge, the STaR Trial Network consists of 25 military and academic medical centers and over 50 of the best knee surgeons in the U.S. and Canada.

The medical director of Ochsner Baton Rouge’s sports medicine program says these types of knee injuries require extremely specialized care and training, comparing surgery necessary to transplant surgery.

New Emergency Department pediatric exam room now available at St. Charles Hospital

Designed to make children feel at ease and calm in a hospital environment, the room is sea-themed and features colorful aquatic graphics, search and find activities and a child-sized exam table. The colors used in the room were chosen with the intention to create a soothing and peaceful environment for when pediatric patients are brought to the ED for medical attention.

The hospital held a ribbon cutting ceremony on March 29 to officially open the room. The equipment and design were made possible by the generosity of the United Way of St. Charles.

Compiled by The Chartis Center for Rural Health, the annual recognition program honors rural hospitals with outstanding performance based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance Index.

Ochsner Health adds hospital, increases its minimum wage

The Jennings hospital signed a letter of intent in 2019 to explore joining Lafayette General Health, which is now known as Ochsner Lafayette General. The Jennings hospital became part of the Ochsner Lafayette General region and will operate under a long-term lease agreement. The Jennings leadership team will continue to manage the day-to-day operations.
