Evidence-based course helps Ochsner physician leaders tackle wellness

Nigel Girgrah, MD, PhD, chief wellness officer of New Orleans-based Ochsner Health, understands the value of developing wellness programs to promote a healthy and productive workforce.

Without a healthy and productive workforce, hospitals and health systems risk jeopardizing their care quality and financial picture, Dr. Girgrah told Becker's.

Burnout is often part of healthcare discussions around employees and their well-being. A 2021 cross-sectional survey published June 7 in JAMA found that improving care delivery, patient safety and nurse staffing are key issues nurses and physicians say management can take to improve burnout. Dr. Girgrah said wellness programs also play a part and help gauge employee engagement and how those clinicians are feeling.

Ochsner Rush Health makes donation to Lauderdale County Schools

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Ochsner Rush Health donated more than 200 STEM kits to Southeast Elementary and Northeast Elementary.

Each school received more than 100 of the ambulance building kits. The kits were put together by Ochsner Rush employees from throughout the region.

This is the first year for all LCSD elementary students to take computer science where they will use these kits.

National Institution of Health grants $16.5 million for research on Louisiana maternal mortality rates

The National Institutes of Health awarded Tulane University, Ochsner Health and nonprofit RH Impact a seven-year grant for the establishment of a research center focused on Louisiana’s disproportionately high maternal mortality rate.

The NIH gave $16.5 million to fund their initiative, IMPROVE, which stands for “Implementing a Maternal Health and Pregnancy Outcomes Vision for Everyone.” The money will also be used to erect one of the 10 national Maternal Health Research Centers of Excellence.

Two local clinics join Ochsner Rush Health

Two Meridian primary care clinics, Clarkdale Clinic and Southeast Clinic, have joined Ochsner Rush Health. The clinics will continue services at their existing locations. Ochsner Rush Health is part of Ochsner Health, the largest health system in the Gulf South, and has been serving the Meridian community for over 100 years.
