Fernis joined Ochsner Health in January 2015 as Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Ochsner St. Anne in Raceland. He then served as COO for Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center, later assuming COO duties for both St. Anne and Chabert. In 2020, Fernis was appointed CEO of Ochsner St. Mary, and led the hospital's transition to Ochsner Health before becoming CEO for the Bayou Region in December 2021.
As the Regional CEO, Fernis has oversight of Ochsner St. Anne, Chabert Medical Center and Ochsner St. Mary. He also serves as CEO for Chabert Medical Center.
Fernis earned an associate degree in radiologic technology from Delgado Community College followed by a bachelor's degree in radiologic sciences from Florida Hospital College. He later earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of New Orleans.
