Richard D. Guthrie, Jr., MD, CPE, is Chief Quality Officer for Ochsner Health. He is responsible for overseeing the infrastructure to provide for excellent patient safety and clinical quality for all Ochsner Health Facilities.
Dr. Guthrie was named New Orleans Medical Director in 1999 and served in that role through 2014. He had previously served on the internal medicine staff, becoming chairman of the General Internal Medicine department in New Orleans in 1995. He also served on the Ochsner Clinic Board of Governors from 1996-1998.
Dr. Guthrie earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Orleans, summa cum laude, and graduated from Louisiana State University Medical School, Alpha Omega Alpha, in 1986. Dr. Guthrie received his internal medicine training, including residency and chief residency, at Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation.
