LAFAYETTE – Acadiana
Imaging Services (AIS)
will offer low-dose lung cancer screenings on National Lung Cancer Screening
Day, Saturday, November 12, 2022, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. AIS is
located at 1122 South Bernard Road, Suite A in Broussard, behind Hebert’s
Specialty Meats.
As a Lung Cancer Awareness Month initiative, the American Cancer Society (ACS), National Lung Cancer Roundtable (NLCRT), American College of Radiology (ACR), GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer, and Radiology Healthy Equity Coalition (RHEC) are promoting this life-saving event nationwide to screen more individuals and raise awareness about lung cancer screening.
The low-dose lung cancer screening CT is a scan that can help detect lung cancer. Each screening takes approximately 15 minutes. To schedule a scan, call Acadiana Imaging Services at 337-571-LUNG (5864).
Lung cancer screenings are considered preventative scans, and most insurance providers cover the scan at 100%. Special rates are available for patients that meet scanning criteria set by the CDC but do not have insurance coverage. Patients can ensure benefits coverage when they call AIS to schedule their lung cancer screening.
Why Get Screened?
When it comes to cancer, early detection can save lives. According to the American Lung Association, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in America. Screening is used to detect lung cancer early when it is most likely curable. If lung cancer is caught before it spreads, the likelihood of surviving five years or more improves to 60%.
Who Should Be Scanned?
Current and former smokers who have a 20 pack-year* or more smoking history, who smoke now or have quit within the past 15 years and are between 50 and 80 years old are eligible to receive a scan. *A pack-year is smoking an average of one pack of cigarettes per day for one year. For example, a person could have a 20 pack-year history by smoking one pack a day for 20 years or two packs a day for 10 years.
Interested in Quitting Smoking?
The Ochsner Lafayette General Smoking Cessation team will be on site for smokers that are interested in receiving help in quitting smoking. No appointment necessary.
