Mrs. Gayle Benson Brings Holiday Cheer to Pediatric Patients at Ochsner Hospital for Children

NEW ORLEANS – Tis the season to spread holiday cheer! Ochsner Hospital for Children patients and their families were treated to a fun-filled holiday gathering hosted by Mrs. Gayle Benson on Friday, December 10, 2021.

Joyful laughing rang out and holiday music rang out as pediatric patients and their families gathered at Ochsner’s flagship campus on Jefferson Highway to celebrate the holidays. Attendees were delighted to see Ochsner’s Brent House atrium transformed into a winter wonderland complete with Christmas trees decked out in red and gold, a jumbo green sleigh and artificial snow.

Mrs. Gayle Benson’s special holiday guest Santa added to the festive spirit, visiting with attendees and giving high fives while patients cheerfully unwrapped holiday presents graciously donated by the Winn-Dixie Women’s Development Network – New Orleans. Local grocer Winn-Dixie also hosted a holiday cookie decoration station complete with frosting, colorful sprinkles and an assortment of candies to choose from for toppings. To keep the holiday spirit going strong, each pediatric in-patient received a mini-Christmas tree for their hospital room along with a digital health kit from Tytocare.

The festivities were possible thanks to the generous support of Mrs. Gayle Benson along with sponsors Tytocare, Winn-Dixie, Paper Doll Promotions, Mardi Gras Productions, and Dickie Brennan & Co. Catering. All event attendees were masked and followed COVID-19 safety protocols.

“For many of our pediatric patients, this will be their first time away from home during the holidays. It means the world to the patients, their families and the care team here at Ochsner Hospital for Children for Mrs. Gayle Benson and friends to bring a little holiday magic to these kids,” said Shon Cowan Baker, PhD, Vice President, Philanthropy, Ochsner Health.
