Ochsner Health Facilities Recognized with an ‘A’ by Leapfrog in Fall Patient Safety Grades

Eleven Ochsner Health facilities, including four partner facilities, earned an ‘A’ Fall 2020 Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a designation that recognizes efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards in the United States. Ochsner hospitals and partner facilities earning this honor include:

“Healthcare is an extremely complex field requiring significant efforts to ensure the safety of our patients,” said Richard Guthrie, MD, Chief Quality Officer, Ochsner Health. “Leapfrog’s commitment to creating transparency through data serves the community and helps inform and empower patients. Ochsner is proud of the efforts we’ve made, the successes we’ve had, and is committed to continuous improvement in patient safety.”

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization committed to healthcare quality and safety. The Safety Grade is a letter assigned to all general hospitals across the country and updated every six months, assessing how well hospitals prevent medical errors and other harms to patients.

“We are extremely grateful to hospital leadership and healthcare workers who have remained steadfast in prioritizing patient safety as our nation battles COVID-19,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Achieving an ‘A’ is a testament to the care and commitment of those who work for Ochsner Health and its partners. With the current pandemic exposing flaws within the U.S. healthcare system, we appreciate you putting safety first. Lives depend on it.”

Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, the Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public.
