Ochsner Hospital for Children Nationally Ranked in Pediatric Gastroenterology and GI Surgery

Only hospital in Louisiana and Mississippi to receive prestigious designation from U.S. News & World Report

For the second consecutive year, Ochsner Hospital for Children has been ranked among the top 50 children’s hospitals in the country by U.S. News and World Report. Ochsner has been included in the 2018-19 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings for pediatric gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery specialties. U.S. News & World Report is the global authority in hospital rankings and consumer advice. The only children’s hospital in Louisiana and Mississippi to be recognized, Ochsner Hospital for Children has one of the most comprehensive pediatric programs from Houston, Texas to Atlanta, GA.

The 12th annual US News and World Report rankings recognize the top 50 pediatric facilities across the U.S. in 10 pediatric specialties, including cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.

“We are fortunate to have a passionate, highly talented team, led by gifted pediatric physicians and subspecialists and nurses whose advanced knowledge enables them to care for the most complex cases,” said Dr. William Lennarz, System Chair of Pediatrics, Ochsner Health System. “This designation validates and reaffirms the level of professional expertise we provide to our patients and their families.”

“My family and I are so grateful to have a nationally-recognized children’s hospital close to home,” said Angelle Shaffette, mother of Ochsner Hospital for Children patient Cecilia. “As a parent, seeing your child sick and in pain is one of the scariest experiences. The compassion and expertise at Ochsner Hospital for Children provide our family with great comfort.” Read more about Cecilia’s story here.

U.S. News introduced the Best Children’s Hospitals rankings in 2007 to help families of children with rare or life-threatening illnesses find the best medical care available. They are the only comprehensive source of quality-related information on U.S. pediatric hospitals.

The U.S. News Best Children’s Hospitals rankings rely on clinical data and on an annual survey of pediatric specialists. The rankings methodology factors in patient outcomes, such as mortality and infection rates, as well as available clinical resources and compliance with best practices.

“The U.S. News Best Children’s Hospitals highlight pediatric centers that deliver state-of-the-art medical care to children with complex conditions,” said Ben Harder, Chief of Health Analysis at U.S. News. “Children with life-threatening or rare conditions need the level of quality care that these hospitals deliver day after day.”

Ochsner Hospital for Children has offered exceptional pediatric care for more than 75 years. Ochsner offers the only pediatric heart and liver transplant program in the state, serving over 76,000 children every year with 120+ physicians specializing in more than 30 pediatric specialties and sub-specialties.
