Ochsner Medical Center- Hancock Receives 'A' Fall 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

BAY ST. LOUIS – Ochsner Medical Center - Hancock was awarded an ‘A’ in the fall 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing Ochsner Medical Center - Hancock’s achievements protecting patients from harm and providing safer healthcare. The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization driven by employers and other purchasers of health care committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. The Safety Grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to all general hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.

"We’re extremely proud to have achieved three consecutive Leapfrog ‘A’ ratings since the fall of 2018,” said Alan Hodges, CEO of Ochsner Medical Center–Hancock. “These results highlight our ongoing commitment to provide high-quality, safe patient care for the people of coastal Mississippi. Our nurses, physicians and staff continue to work together to improve our patients’ outcomes, keep patients safe and to expand the services we offer the residents of our region.”

Developed under the guidance of a National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

Ochsner Health and Hancock County entered into a long-term lease agreement in April 2018 to operate Hancock Medical Center, expanding upon the strategic partnership the two organizations created in 2013. Now Ochsner Medical Center–Hancock, the hospital is expanding services and improving the quality and coordination of care, transforming the healthcare delivered to patients in the Gulf Coast region.
